Associated Meaning Behind Orange Lilies

Today, orange lilies are used for many occasions; weddings, funerals and birthdays are just a few examples. Originally, orange lilies meant disdain, hatred and wealth. Perhaps that may sound strange but in ancient times, there were wealthy families that were cruel to poor families and many of these rich families had orange lilies in their gardens. People started associating the lilies with how much they hated the nasty, wealthy folks. With time, the perception of orange lilies began changing because the orange lily spread all over the world via trade routes. Its vivid colors make it likeable and since it mixes easily with other flowers, it has become a favorite for large celebrations.

Maintaining Orange Lilies

The best time to plant lilies is either during spring or fall. Don’t worry if you’ve never planted a lily before because it doesn’t require too much skill. In order to keep your lilies alive, you must keep them in a cool area. It’s important to cut a portion of the stems every two days  but don’t trim too much; taking more than a third of the plant’s mass off can weaken it and shorten its life. Always give orange lilies plenty of water  but do not oversaturate them. Remember to fertilize them with a balanced manure or fertilizer at least every couple of weeks. Since they are a bit slow to start developing, make sure you keep an eye on them. Don’tassume that they have stopped growing – maintain them until maturity is obvious. If you have cats, be very careful as orange lilies can kill them if ingested.
